Sussex County Opening Day

A new self directed water exercise program to assist Sussex County area adults with muscular impairment has begun at the Sussex County YMCA in Hardyston. Participants are those people who have difficulty getting exercise on land because of mobility constraints due to stroke, MS, accident, surgery, MD, arthritis, cancer, polio or post polio syndrome or other reasons. The program is free for all participants.

SWIM, Inc. is providing the program at facilities donated by the Sussex County YMCA. The weekly program consists of one hour in the pool followed by a one hour social gathering. The program will be held every Monday from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

SWIM, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization of volunteers that is dedicated to assisting adults with muscular impairment through the benefits of self directed water exercise. SWIM, Inc. volunteers provide participants assistance as needed from entrance to locker room to the pool. In the pool participants engage in self directed activities of their choice. Some participants walk, some float, some swim and some do other activities with which they feel most comfortable. After the water exercise, the participants conclude the session in a nearby meeting room for a short social gathering.

Anyone interested in participating or who knows of someone who could benefit from this program should contact Bob Hopkins, Sussex County Coordinator for SWIM, Inc. at 973-729-3686 or e‑mail Hopkins at: swimsmart@yahoo.com
